Our handsome new coasters are handcrafted in Kentucky using full-grain domestic cowhides that have been drum-dyed for color. There is no top finish so the appearance is very natural and complements the elegant form of the Chemex. When handled these develop a beautiful "patina"; they will also pick up coloration from an liquid which comes in contact with it.
We are very excited to offer you incredibly crafted and exquisitely beautiful Chemex collars, created by Justin LaRose.
Justin turns broken skateboards into functional works of art. He traveled from Massachusetts to Long Beach, CA in the early 2000’s for one reason - year round skateboarding. While working as barista and roasting assistant, he fell in love with coffee. That love combined with prior experience in building and refinishing furniture, awoke in him a drive to create that he had never felt before.
“By recycling broken decks into new wood, the colorful material avoids the landfill while continuing to show its colorful style and retaining its history. Think about many stairs your tamper handle has ollied, or how your Chemex collar shredded a pool or skatepark... I am beyond stoked that my passions have translated into making tools for an epic coffee experience.” – Justin LaRose
